Summary: I have only had my HP Pavilion Elite m9340f a few days. My frustration comes from some obvious things. If it is a HD media machine to be hooked up with a HD TV, why not provide a wireless keyboard and mouse? I had to replace the keyboard and mouse right away with a wireless media keyboard suitable for a living room. Also, it has all the instructions to hook this up to record off of a HD cable or satellite box but can?t actually do it. The PVR is a big feature of this machine. It even has the remote to control the satellite box. However, in the setup diagrams it assumes that you have a coaxial coming out of the satellite box, but the only HD out I have is HDMI, meant to go to the TV. The computer doesn't have a HDMI in, so I can't receive HD signal from the satellite box to the computer. I can send HD signal from both the computer and satellite box to the TV but I still can?t get the satellite box to send HD signal to the computer. The best is s-video. I don?t think I would have bought the computer if I had known this limitation. The computer doesn?t have blu-ray, which I knew, so it doesn?t play HD DVD. So unless you get your HD off of the internet, this computer doesn?t really have much HD functionality because it doesn?t have an HDMI input.

Video card fan noisy (a known issue with the code)

Summary: Ok, so I love how my games run on this thing, and the price wasn't really all that bad. I still find Vista frustrating, but I can work with it. My main frustration with this unit is the fan on the video card. Or rather, the code for the video card. There is a fault in the code that makes the temperature sensor on the video card think that it's overheating, causing the fan to rev up as high as it will go to cool it off. And mine? It's always 'overheated', even when I first turn it on and the room is cold. Reinstalling the operating system didn't help, at all. I'm writing this on my laptop, waiting for HP to put out a fix for the code because the noise is to painful to listen too. Customer support removed the support thread on this problem from their forum, and tried to convince me the probelem was because I didn't have the 3.0 dotnetwork settings, which where installed at setup. They had me download and attempt to install a patch that constantly said my system didn't meet the specifications to install (and according to Nvidia was supposed to fix a random loss of sound problem). They had me reinstall the operating system. When I held the phone up to the computer so they could hear it for themselves, they tried waving their hands and saying 'this is not the problem you think it is.' They refuse to replace the video card, and have no eta on when the code will be fixed for this known problem. So, if you have this system and no problems, good for you. As for me? Since I can't use it, it hasn't been worth it, and I probably won't buy from HP again.

Summary: I bought this machine when my GM5478 had to get fixed for the 3rd time. I've really enjoyed this machine. It comes with the Nvidia 9500s which has an HDMI output- I run 2 22" monitors and have a 37" LCD tv hooked up to I can watch blu-ray now and then.
It's never had a problem with overheating, runs quiet as a mouse. I'd spring for a stronger power supply, as this one barely meets the minimum to run the machine.

Summary: I just recently got my hands on this bad-boy computer, and all I can say is wow. I got a great bundle from Future Shop, which included a 22" hi-def widescreen display, with the HDMI input jack, and I also purchased a blu-ray/HD-DVD player to watch those glorious movies on my glorious monitor, and it totaled out around $1500 (CAN). The processor makes everything run superbly, the graphics card gives all your games that great look, and the 750GB hard-drive gives you enough room for all your needs. First game I installed on the system was Crysis, which, as those of you who've installed it can attest, is a killer if your computer is not top of the line. With all the graphics cranked up to high, the m9340f did not flinch, and ran flawlessly, the textures beautiful, and with no lag I could detect. All in all a wonderful computer, and a definite buy for anyone who needs serious power at a great price.

Summary: This is the wrong machine if you want to use the media features. The set up is not intuitive and without a HDMI in slot, even HD TV looks like you're using Rabbit Ears. I've got an HD Dell 22" monitor. Might be a good gamer box. The speed is unimpressive. Everything from MS Office to Anti-Virus is an option that expires in 60 days. All the documentation is online and hard to use....I've had this thing for three days and I'm already sick of it!!

Pros: For the specs of this machine, the price is pretty good. Over all fairly well pleased.
Cons: I guess to get thiese good features at a good price, quality had to be compromised. I Had to replace Bad power Supply a month after purchase. Had to replace bad viedo card 2 months after purchase. After 3 months, I wonder what is next.
Summary: I purchased on-site extended warranty, it has proven worth the additional cost even after 2 months. I reccomend that you factor in the cost of an on-site extended warranty when ...

Summary: I was somewhat reluctant to upgrade my old desktop running XP, and was even considering putting XP on my new desktop. I'm really glad I didn't do that. Vista 64 bit has been running smoothly without a glitch for 3 weeks, and although a lot of the changes from XP are just visual upgrades, I really like them a lot.
The multimedia capability of this machine is awesome. The built in digital TV tuner works perfectly with the Media Center software. It automatically searches for over the air and cable HD broadcasts. A guide to all the available programming is downloaded, and you can choose to record shows on your PC with a very easy to use Tivo like interface. With gobs of desktop space, I can be wasteful, so I often have a window running with CNN or something in the background.
Highly recommended!
